About Me
I was born in Peru to an American father and a Peruvian mother. I spent my childhood in Peru, in the United States, and in Germany. I was very fortunate to have learned three languages through total immersion at a young age. In college, I studied Audio/Visual Communications in Peru and Theater Arts in New York City. My life has been greatly enriched because I speak multiple languages. I have made many wonderful friends of varying backgrounds along the way and have always found being bi/tri-lingual to be a desired skill in the professional world.
Since 2003, I have enjoyed passing along my language skills through teaching. I started teaching Spanish and ESL at the Inlingua School of Languages in Germany. I then moved to Seattle in 2007 and began teaching German and Spanish for Rosetta Stone and to private clients.
Whether you want to learn a new language to exercise your brain, to meet new people, or to assist you in business, I would love to help you and your family reach your goals, enrich your lives, and connect with the world.
Education
Industry Expertise
I'm a woman who has worn many hats over the years. Here are just a few of the jobs I have had to give you an idea:
-2001-2003 Suba Restaurant Latin Lounge Manager, NYC. Hired personnel and supervised all aspects of running the lounge including placing food/liquor orders, managing staff, scheduling shifts, and troubleshooting issues during operation.
-2007-2008 Paula's Choice Cosmetics bilingual customer service agent and personal interpreter for the CEO on media tours in Mexico, Germany, & Austria. I was responsible for troubleshooting issues with orders, I gave feedback and made suggestions to the R&D team on customer satisfaction and quality control. In addition, I accompanied the CEO on her trips abroad; it was my role to act as an interpreter during business meetings & media interviews.
-2018-current. Licensed real estate broker and owner of a home renovation LLC. My company purchases homes in need of renovation and sells them upon completion of the renovation. As a broker I find such properties, negotiate with sellers and buyers, write up all contracts, determine market value before & after renovation, & market the properties. We work closely with contractors, electricians, plumbers, painters, roofers, landscapers, & city/county licensing officials.
My Coaching Details
I began teaching at the Inlingua school of languages, Munich in 2003 (ESL & Spanish). I've been teaching since then. I've also taught for Linguarama and Rosetta Stone.
Coaching Style
I have taught for language schools in Germany and the largest language learning software company in the world. I have taught using full immersion (using only the target language) and a combination of mostly full immersion with minimal translation. I teach in the target language but will not shy away from breaking immersion, if needed. How do I decide when to break immersion? I break immersion when it is obvious to me that the learner is confused. Confusion causes frustration and frustration may cause learners to lose motivation. My goal is to keep my students inspired. What about grammar you ask? I very rarely use drill techniques or tedious grammar exercises that can be very boring (you may remember these from your foreign language class in high school). Instead, I explain what we are working on, clarify what the grammar structures are, and allow students to practice with real, palpable situations (role plays, conversation, narrating).
